The island of Euböa is located in the Aegean. It is the second largest island from Greece after Crete and is unknown by most non-Greeks. A brdige at Chalkida connects the island with the mainland. Kalivia, the location of the house, is a village on the mountain area of the city of Karystos (about 5000 residents). Particularly during the spring, the island is ideal for hikers and nature lovers, because the vegetation shows its beauty during this time. The ‘Dimosari gorge’ with its wild flowers, butterflies and birds is recommended, along with a tour on the Ochi mountain. Fall (September-October) is a popular time for hikes when it is dry. Guides are offered! Castello Rosso, the dragon houses or the nearby Qelle Agia Triada with its chapel and a lot more are all worth seeing. During the summer, the city and its beaches are a popular destination for all from Athens!

Around us….: …is only Greece in its entire originality and unity. The nature of this part of the island (southern Eböa) is beautiful in its own way. There is less green than in the northern part of the island, the landscape is similar to that of the small islands of the Aegean in the south. Southern Euböa has an old history. There are a lot of interesting, mostly Byzantine monuments, churches, monasteries and castles. The fishing harbour, the boats that come and go, stores, taverns and cafes, the cosy locals, people relaxing and a few foreigners creates a humane and Mediterranean atmosphere. Line bus connections between Karystos and Chalkida (about 127 km) come twice a day. The ferry connections to the mainland go from Marmari to Rafina or from Nea Styra to Agia marina. Those who like to hike will particularly enjoy April to the end of June, since the vegetation is in full bloom during this time. We also recommend the nature reserve ‘Dimosari gorge’ with its rare wild flowers, butterflies and birds. During the fall (September-October), a popular time for hikes, the region is dry and sparse. Perched on the rocks above the Aegean sea, Delenia embraces the sunrise and offers breathtaking panoramic views from the extensive grounds. Situated in south Evia, it is a mere 1.5 hours from the International Airport, and yet the estate itself lies on an undiscovered corner of the Aegean. Complete privacy, but easily accessible. Delenia consists of a total of 6 buildings; five bedrooms (all en-suite, with their own cooling systems, fireplace and under floor heating for the winter months), two kitchens, two living rooms, one study and three dining areas. Villa Arethousa is situated 2km from the village of Nerotrivia, and is a 15 minute drive from the charming beach of Dafni. The nearest (pebbly) beach is 800m away. Nerotrivia offers a small supermarket, a bakery and a taverna (which doubles as a butcher’s). There are many activities on offer in the vicinity, including trekking on Mt Dirfys (1750m) and its gorge, trips to northern Evia with its lush unspoilt scenery (the best in Greece according to some observers) and numerous archaeological sites within easy reach. The capital of Evia, Halkida (or Chalkis), is only a 30 minute drive away, offering a charming waterfront and some of the best seafood and fish in all of Greece.

Evia, with a length of 175km, is the second largest Greek island, after Crete, but is relatively unspoilt by tourism. Package tourism has been discouraged by the absence of an airport, and so most tourism is domestic, consisting of weekending Athenians. The northern half of the island is very green and lush, the southern half more barren, beginning to resemble the Cycladic islands. The middle is dominated by the Mt Dirfys range (reaching 1750m), offering spectacular views and pleasant trekking in pine and chestnut forests. There are fine beaches on both the western side as well as the eastern side, which looks to the Aegean. The island offers many activities that can keep even the most adventurous busy.

Independent rural stonehouse with pool and garden, sleeps 5 or 6 on Greek island. Situated at the end of a quiet earth road in the foothills above Karystos, is the Old Stone House, retaining many of the original features and feel while providing the conveniences of modern facilities. It is far away from any international tourism centres and provides a naturally quiet rural environment whilst being on the edge of a village and only five minutes drive away from the town. The position of the house provides wonderful views across farming land towards the sea. The house faces west and so the sunset is a daily spectacle. The layout is unusual, providing a large kitchen, dining room and bedroom on the upper floor and two further bedrooms, the living room, two bathrooms with shower and toilet and a small atrium at the entrance level. 5 or 6 people can sleep comfortably. Karystos is a town set amongst the foothills of Mt Ochi in the southernmost part of Evia. A combination of island and mountain countryside, which overlooks the bay of Karystos and gazes at the Cyclades, creating a destination full of surprises and contrasts. A well-built town, with excellent town planning, beautiful neoclassical public buildings, mansions, traditional houses and a cosmopolitan lifestyle. It has shopping centers, great night life with clubs and bars, and many activities to do, like sailing, scuba diving, water skiing etc.
